This time around we wanted to modify our rocket so it would launch, unlike last time where it pretty much exploded. Our rocket had the ability to hold an object inside of it, like a Lego man or a quail egg. Our rocket was really short, so the motor with it's ejection charge was too tall for the rocket, a big portion of the charge was taken out to make the motor shorter. We used duct tape to hold the charge in it's place. Duct tape also helped hold the cargo spot in place when it was too loose to stay put. I didn't get to go to the launch, because I didn't get the permission slip signed, but I got to see a video. At the launch the ejection charge worked, but the explosion melted the parachute, so it couldn't unfold. But the rocket still flew well and did it's job. The landing also broke two fins though.
I am honestly not to interested in rockets, and only did this project for my grade, so I didn't take charge that much. I'm not a natural leader anyways. I just did what I was told. But I guess I'm glad that I did this project anyways, it was pretty interesting to learn how rockets work, but it's just not for me.
But even though I just did what the kids that were more knowledgeable in the rocketry area told me to do, I still learned a few things. I worked with the basic construction of the rocket, like building the base, fins, and nosecone. At first I was a little afraid, I didn't want to accidentally mess up, ruin the rocket, and have my entire group hate me forever. But once I stopped stressing out so much, I ended up making some alright looking pieces, I think I did a pretty good job making the nosecone.
If I could do this project again, I wish I could stop stressing out about ruining everything and do more of the project, I feel kind of guilty that my anxiety kept me from helping out more.
