I did a second out of space photo, this time of a geode. The crystals look super pretty up close, and you can see all of the shards coming of the rock shell.
I became really fascinated with the crystallization and then decided to figure out how geodes form. After some research, I found out that geodes are created in hollow parts of soil, like animal burrows and tree roots, or in the bubbles inside of volcanic rock. Over time, minerals that have already been dissolved seep into the hollow areas in the ground, or bubbles, and form a hard shell, which creates the geode.
It took a lot of tries, since I'm not used to using the lens and I have pretty shaky hands, so a lot of the pictures turned out blurry. But after trying for about ten minutes, I got a really nice picture that I'm proud of.
I really want to spend more time working with gems, rocks, and minerals. I've always liked them, I even made a few things on the lapidary machine last year. I hope once the lapidary gets started up again I can make some more things, I'd lose to make things out of rose quartz, lapis lazuli, or celestite.
