For this video, I decided to see what it looked like putting food coloring into a beaker of water in slow motion. I asked Annika to drop the food coloring in, while I took a video. Then I uploaded it to my computer, and slowed the video (while also adding some music for effect). It looked really interesting in slow motion, the blue food coloring swirled around and dropped to the bottom of the beaker in oily blobs.
I learned that reason that they were in blobs, was because gel food colorings are made in labs out of petroleum , which is an oil. Even though the petroleum mixes with the water eventually, oil and water tend to not mix. Which is why it takes some stirring at first, and why they drop down in separate blobs.
I think my video turned out looking really good, I really like the results of this project. It's really interesting seeing things that we can't see because it happens too fast.
I don't know if I'll do anymore projects like this, it was interesting, but not exactly my thing. I want to focus more on earth science next section.
This project helped me polish up on my video editing skills, since I haven't really done much of that since the taco salad project I did freshman year.
