In this guided lab we learned more about earth sciences to make rocks, which is one of my favorites. We learned about the periodic table and chemicals. We learned that the earth has different layers, the crust, mantle, outer core, and core.
We also learned about the periodic table. For example, the more it moves up the slope on the table, the more reactive the chemical is, the more atoms get electrons taken away. The more further away the elements are in the periodic table the more reactive it is.
To make our rocks, we put sodium silicate solution into three different vials, and then put different chemicals into each one. One contained calcium chloride, another cobalt chloride, and the last one copper sulfate.
I wish I took some pictures, because they looked really interesting when the crystals formed. They looked like different settings in storybooks I read when I was younger, like palaces and dark forests and oceans, I liked it a lot.
It was interesting lab, but I like to focus more on plants when it comes to earth science. This one was cool too though.
